Cat Cubes - A great way to keep your precious British Shorthair safe outside

Secureakat Triple Cat Cube - Perfect for your Cuddleton British Shorthair As you may have read on this site we insist on our kittens being kept as inside only cats with access to an enclosed garden area only

So how do you keep your precious Cuddleton British Shorthairs safe but allow them some fresh air and the sights and smells of the outdoors?  The answer is a cat cube.

They are light weight and easy to assemble.  This big one above is from the fabulous people at Secureakat.  It is a triple size cat cube and although it looks big and spacious it is light weight and easy to set up and move around.  I can move it out of the way when the lawn is mowed.  It is a great idea if you rent or plan to move in the future.

We were super lucky to win one at the 2010 ACF National Cat Show.  It was generously donated as a raffle prize by Secureakat who are great supporters of our cats shows.  They normally arrive all packed up in a big bundle.  You then just unpack it and put it together.

To begin with the aluminium frame is put together.  You just push the black end pieces into the aluminium tubing.  They are a snug fit but rather than bash them with a mallet just put them on the ground and push the frame down.  You can ease it side to side and it will work it's way in with very little effort.  Once the frame is together you put the mesh on top and pull it out so that each corner sits on the corner of the frame. You then wiggle the sides down adjusting as you go to make sure the zipper lines up and the bottom corners are in the right spot. It is a bit tricky to do but I did it on my own and didnt have too much trouble with it. Next you take cable ties and secure the bottom of the mesh to the frame. I put a tie every four sections of mesh. I did get sore thumbs as I went around the cube base so I started to use pliers to pull the ties closed. I then used them to clip off the ends neatly.

Petey was supervising my building and was keen to try out the cube.  It comes with a big hammock that attached to hooks on the frame. Be sure to have them at the top!

The cats really like sitting on the chair in the cube. I pop them in it when I am cleaning their pens or just when I think they might like to see something new. I can move it around our garden and they tend to just sit, transfixed by the smells and sights of the garden. We hope to expand and get the larger cube next. Secureakat send them across the country from South Australia.
