About Pamela & Her Cats

Meet Pamela

Cuddleton British Shorthairs

Hi, I'm Pamela, a dedicated breeder of beautiful, healthy, and well-socialized British Shorthair cats and kittens in Perth, Western Australia.

If I had to choose one word to describe my passion for British Shorthairs, it would be devoted. I absolutely adore these cats, and it shows in their exceptional quality, temperament, and loving personalities.

As a small hobby breeder, I focus on producing show-quality British Shorthairs while also raising affectionate, well-adjusted kittens for loving pet homes. My goal is to ensure each kitten grows into a happy, healthy companion for their future family.

Let me share these wonderful cats with you!

And my cat breeding hobby

MY CATS ARE MY HOBBY

Many people assume my cats are my job or my business.  They are a lot of work yes but they are my hobby, the thing I do for enjoyment and to bring me joy.

I BREED CATS TO SHOW CATS

I love to take my cats to shows.  It's where this whole crazy thing started for me and it is where my passion lies.  The reason I breed cats is to breed better show cats.  Cats that look closer to the written standard for the British Shorthair breed and cats that have happy and calm temperaments that love to travel and be shown.  It just happens that they also make amazing pets.

I AM A CAT SHOW JUDGE

I am a qualified cat show judge who is licensed to judge all breeds.  This means I get to travel the world meeting new cats and new people.  It is so much fun

I RUN A MEMBERSHIP FOR NEW CAT BREEDERS

I love to share my expertise and knowledge so I have a YouTube Channel, a podcast and a website called "Cat Breeding For Beginners".  I also have an exclusive membership called the New Cat Breeders Club for newbie breeders.

Why should you choose a kitten from me at Cuddleton British Shorthairs

Bringing a kitten into your home is a lifelong commitment, and I want you to feel completely confident in your choice. With 20 years of experience breeding British Shorthairs, I have dedicated my life to raising exceptional kittens that are not only stunning but also well-socialized, healthy, and ready to become cherished family members.

I show my cats extensively across Australia, ensuring that my breeding program consistently meets the highest standards of the breed. This commitment to excellence means that every kitten from Cuddleton British Shorthairs comes from carefully selected, top-quality lines.

But my care doesn’t stop when you take your kitten home. I believe that a responsible breeder should be there for the lifetime of their cats, offering support and guidance whenever you need it. Whether it’s advice on health, behavior, or just sharing updates on your kitten’s progress, I am always happy to help.

Choosing a Cuddleton British Shorthair kitten means not only bringing home a well-bred, well-raised kitten but also gaining a breeder who truly cares about the lifelong happiness of both you and your new companion.

MY HOBBY BRINGS ME GREAT JOY

I breed my beautiful British Shorthair cats from my home south of the river in Perth, Western Australia. I fell in love with the British Shorthair breed a long time ago and I knew I would eventually own my very own British Blue.

I had no idea back then that I would join the cat fancy in 2004 and start showing my British Shorthairs, breeding kittens the judging them and other breeds too . I can’t tell you how much joy it brings me and how many wonderful people I have met through my hobby.

IN THE BEGINNING

It all began after we lost our dear friend Pookie, a grey and white companion cat, to FIV. It is a terrible disease in cats and the equivalent to AIDS in people. It was a very traumatic time and something I wish no cat owner had to go through.

We still had our big domestic girl Minky who was tested and thankfully negative for the disease. She was showing signs of missing having a furry companion so we decided the time was right to bring a new kitty into our family.

I had always loved the look of the British Shorthair and the casual nature. Our Pookie was a big grey and white boy so I learned that the grey was called blue and decided that was what I wanted. A cat to remind me of him but not replace him. Unfortunately for me British are seasonal cats breeding only in the warmer months and I was trying to find a kitten in July!

I searched high and low until I found our precious Poppy who was all the way down south in Albany, Western Australia. We waited for her to grow up and be old enough to come live with us. She flew up to meet us and we fell in love at first sight.

As dedicated show enthusiast I try to breed loving British Shorthair cats and kittens that are healthy, friendly and conform closely to the breed standard. The end result from my careful breeding is beautiful British Shorthair kittens and cats that make wonderful pets.

Well that was it, I was hooked. We started to show Poppy and then arranged with her breeder to use her as our foundation breeding queen. Poppy lived inside the house with us and her best friend Minky, our Calico

(Tortie & White) longhair companion cat. Minky was a showgirl too in the pet cat section at cat shows. This is open to all cats that are pets.

In 2005 Poppy had her first litter. She was a very good mummy and all of the babies were plump little puddings. The daddy was a blue boy. Poppy had flown back to Albany to meet him then flown home to have her babies.

From this litter we kept the very lovely Cuddleton Miss Susannah (Suzy). Suzy is a gorgeous cuddly girl who has a nice plush face and squeaky little purr. Her sister Penelope went to live with my sister in law and her brother Bono with a lovely couple who spoil him rotten. Suzy was our first home grown Cuddleton to be shown and bred. She made it to Diamond Grand Champion at the age of two. Not bad for a competitive colour class!

Suzy was then joined by our stunning bicolour stud boy Cyclard Jack Flash (Jackie). They grew up together. Jackie did exceptionally well at show as an entire (not desexed) cat and I am so proud of him. He took a supreme as a five month old kitten and went to nine interstate Nationals taking some amazing placings including Best Group Three Entire Adult. He supremed several times in local shows too.

Esden Rosie our lilac girl joined us next mated from Qld and gave us two beautiful kittens, Cuddleton Lady Katherine and Cuddleton Lord Richard. They are blues carrying chocolate and both made it to Champion before their first birthday.

In 2007 our exciting imported cats arrived into Australia from the UK. Catbalu Cuddleton and Catbalu Cinnamon Cinders were the first cinnamon based British Shorthairs in Australia. Henry was a Fawn and white and Cindy a black carrying cinnamon. From them we have made some exciting progress breeding cinnamon and fawns. I also have cats and cinnamon lines from Germany and the Czech Republic.

MY INVOLVEMENT IN CAT SHOWS

I have been active in my association and at cat shows since Poppy first came to us. In the years following I have taken on various roles including stewarding, show manager and show secretary. I was fortunate to be the 2009 CCCA National Show Secretary which was a lot of work but so much fun. I was also absolutely honoured to have been asked to perform that role again for the 2010 CCCA National being held in conjunction with the World Cat Congress in Melbourne and again in 2015 at the ACF National Show here in Perth. I have run many, many local shows and stewarded at countless others.

I am a qualified cat show judge and I am currently an all shorthair judge licensed by my association and on the CCCA panel of judges.

BREEDING MY BRITISH SHORTHAIRS

I have a full range of colours including traditional British blue right through to my exciting cinnamon and fawn British Shorthairs, they were the first in Australia!

My British Shorthair breeding cats are tested for known genetic problems such as PKD, blood typed and fully vaccinated. They all receive the very best of care because in reality they are not breeding stock, they are my much loved pets who just happen to have babies and go to shows.

British Shorthairs are seasonal breeders which means kittens are normally available during the warmer months of the year. I breed for quality not quantity so this means I only have a limited number of British Shorthair kittens available.

The breed is very popular so there is always a lot of new owners ready to adopt kittens. This may mean there is a wait to adopt especially if I have smaller litters.

Have you visited my Cuddleton British Shorthair Facebook page? I post regularly with photos of my cats and kittens as well as lots and lots of updates from owners of the cats I have bred.
